If you are interested in becoming a sperm donor, the following information is important for you. Most importantly, we wish to thank you for considering becoming a sperm donor with the Fertility Center of California. We make every attempt to ensure the confidentiality of this procedure and the anonymity of our sperm donors. You will be well taken care of by our team of laboratory staff. Our sperm donor program has been active since 1980 and we are proud of our relationship with our sperm donors.

 

Before applying online to become an anonymous sperm donor with FCC, please make sure you meet the following requirements:

 

 

Applicants must be

  • between the ages of 18 and 39
  • currently attending (or graduated) from college
  • living in commuting distance to one of our offices (San Diego/Orange)
  • committing to the program for 1-2 years
  • donating 1-2 times a week
  • practice abstinence from any type of ejaculation 2-5 days prior to collection
  • completing a detailed questionnaire with medical and genetic history
  • undergoing one physical examination and blood tests every three months

All physical characteristics, such as height, weight, etc. are not relevant. Please contact our office if you have further questions about the application process.

Sperm Donor Online Application Process

If you can meet all the requirements listed above, please go to our online donor application and create an account. Fill out all the fields in the questionnaire and upload between 1 and 4 photos of you as an infant or toddler. (Ideally, photos should have no other people showing and your facial features should be clearly visible.)

After you submit your application, we will review your information and send you a notice to complete the second, more detailed application.

You will then need to contact our office nearest you and make an appointment with our donor program coordinator. Prior to your appointment, which will be for 1 hour or less, make sure you have the following forms completed:

At your first appointment, a semen analysis will be performed. On initial evaluation, sperm donors must test negative or non-reactive to the required tests. Sperm donor specimens are held in quarantine for at least six months. After the quarantine period, the sperm donor must test negative or non-reactive for all required tests prior to releasing vials for clinical use.

The following donor sperm tests are performed initially:

  • HIV I / II Antibody
  • HTLV I / II Antibody
  • RPR (Syphilis)
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • CMV (Cytomegalo Virus) Antibody (IgM and IgG)
  • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
  • Hepatitis B Core Antibody
  • Hepatitis C Viral Antibody
  • ALT (SGPT)
  • AST (SGOT)
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
  • Lipid Panel
  • Tay Sach's
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Chromosome Analysis

Sperm donor compensation is $65 per collection.
